Did the title catch you off guard? No, I’m not having digestive issues again – I wanted to tell you about something that I want to try and wanted to see if anyone’s already doing it to give all of us advice. Have you heard of “no poo“? It’s basically throwing out your chemical laden shampoo’s and conditioner’s and using vinegar and baking soda to wash your hair. Supposedly it works great and helps keep the hair healthy and strong.
I wash my hair just about every day. Otherwise it’s greasy and unkempt. Of course, these days it’s normally in a messy bun since I work from home, but I still don’t like it to look greasy. I love the shampoo/conditioner I’m using (CHI) because it’s Paraben-Free but don’t care for the price. In the blog post about no-poo she says,
Shampoo is a detergent, and like most detergents, it not only cleans, but it strips everything (including the natural healthy oils that keep your hair soft and strong) out of your hair. The fact from point number one makes your scalp overcompensate for the lack of natural oils, producing too much…and making your hair greasy feeling in a matter of a couple days. Shampoo/Conditioner manufactures love this, because you’ll continually wash your hair every couple days, if not every day, for the rest of your life. Cha ching!
Duh, that makes complete sense! Kind of like how eye drops really make your eyes more dry so that you need to keep using them? Catch-22 there. I digress – read the no poo post and tell me if you’re with me! I’m going to try it and of course everything is easier when you have support with you. So who’s with me in going no-poo?
